About the Area

Château Lavelanet is located on the highest hill of the surrounding area, about 3 minutes drive from the centre of Villefranche de Lauragais. This market town is strategically located at the first exit on the highway from Toulouse, the fourth largest city in France and a wonderful University town, combining youth, sophistication, relaxed southern spirit and hospitality combined with an international flair.

Villefranche has all the modern amenities of a small town: restaurants, grocery stores, bars, cafés, a nice gym and its own movie theatre. Horse riding stables are close by and there are wonderful trails for hikers and off-road bicycling enthusiasts.

A drive around the Lauragais area is a pleasure that many who discover it for the first time often vow to repeat. The rolling hills and farm settings reminds one of a quieter Provence.

One of the most popular pleasures in the surroundings is to go bike riding along the Canal du Midi, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which is about 5km away. Boat tours and complete evening outings on the Canal du Midi can be organized with some notice.
